Funkaam.... How and Why?

One lazy Saturday afternoon, a bag of chips, a can of coke, on the phone discussing about life, career and future plans with a friend. Planning what to do with the idle time and mind, something new something different this time, something that is more fun,yet not just fun. We had tried out our hands in few other things before; Blogging, Role Playing Game Forum, an Article Library and few other stuff. Some of those were successful, and some not so successful. So what's this time? Thought lets bring in more people...more ideas... more problems and their resolutions..and ofcourse more fun. We wanted to cater to a narrower audience this time, though I just talked about "more people" in the previous line. Actually it would be narrowing down the focusing area, but more involvement. This time the audiance would be basically Indian youth, and to be more precise Indian youth in service sector. But the options would always be open,to embrace new groups of audience, to broaden our horizon. We agreed upon starting up something that would be close enough to a Social Networking site, but would have a discussion forum as well. Where people can build their network, talk about new ideas, share experiences, and learn about new oppertunities. That was it; and Funkaam was born.

In India, about 60 percent of revenue is generated by the Service sector, IT and ITES occupying the major chunk of this pie-chart. No need to say here, that I belong to this group and so are many of my friends. So tremendous is the effect of this industry, that even the education system has been modulated to cater to the Industry requirement. There are 3 major streams in Indian Education system, after the basic education; Science, Arts and Commerce. Science; the most favoured and most opted stream, bifurcates into Engineering and Medicines. And all streams of Engineering merge into Software industry later once the students get their degrees. And fate of all these thousands of Engineers sways with boom or bust of the IT industry.
Today in India, a job in IT or ITES sector is one of the most promising ones, handsome amount of money, fast career growth, assignments in foreign countries, and various other perks. But comes along with that long and odd working hours, less time for family and friends, stress and cut throat competition.

Funkaam, would portray the hopes, dreams as well as agony and pain of Indian youth; of their work-life and personal life as well as. Lets join hands and paint the world Red.

Yes, and we have started.

Yes, and we have started. It is not much of a 'Social Networking' website yet. Not in the general sense. We still have the forums where we can discuss on issues. You can also comment on articles like I am doing for Rosalin's.

You can go to a users profile and leave a message in their guest book. But that is about it. I am working on adding other features like, buddy list and may be even a personal messaging. If you have suggestions, do post it in the forums.
