I happened to spend the last weekend in City of Casinos..Las Vegas. A glittering, simmering city in the middle of dry land (read desert, Vegas is 2000 above sea level), a 6 mile strip that generates more revenue than the entire state (Nevada). A city that sleeps in the day and wakes up to celebrate the entire night. A city of all vices; gambling, booze and women. Vegas is very unlike any other American city (well I know about quite a few by now), cold and quiet, people coming early to work, leaving early to spend some time with their family,and going to bed early as well, more cars on roads than one tenth of people on the pavements. Vegas does not qualify any one of these criteria. It is hot, dusty, has crowded pavements and it is up all night.
As mentioned earlier, the main attraction of Las Vegas is "The Strip", it stretches for about 6 miles and all major casinos and bars, hotels, shopping malls, theme restaurants, amusement parks, and theaters are on the Strip. And believe me 2 days will not be enough to cover this 6 mile strip.
Now some To Do's and Not To Do's;
1. Be prepared for a very hot and rough climate. Comfortable shoes, loose cotton clothing is a must.
2. Drink plenty of water. Well water is costlier than alcohol and scarce too. So have some water in your backpack.
3. You won't find an affordable place to eat in the Strip, very few food joints are there. Most of the restaurants are theme restaurants, well once in a while we can treat ourselves.;-)
4. You would find people standing on the roadside handing over pamphlets/magazines of some inappropriate content, which might feel offensive. If ignored, they wont bother/harass people.
5. In Shopping malls you would find only Armanis, Pradas, Guccis... so Vegas is not a very suitable place to fill in your shopping carts.
6. About Casinos, gambling is fun, as long as you are aware of your limits. Remember, "The House always wins". And it is not just a saying.. it is simple probability; there is only one way you win(of a sample space of 10 or 100), rest all ways it's the Gambling House.
7. Enjoy the interior decors of all these hotels/casinos. They are awesome. And do not miss the Bellagio Water fountain, and some Roller coaster rides in NewYork NewYork and Circus Circus.
8. Most important thing.. have the camera/handy cam ready all the time, make sure you do not run short of battery, memory card or films. Capture 'em all and bring back the memory along with you.
Have a nice trip!! Have a Blast!!
