Switching Job..at what cost?

Talk about growing Attrition rate, and it gives chills to management of any IT Company; big or small.  But now with the job market simmering hot..with tonnes of new oppertunities, new companies mushrooming Offshore operations of many MNC's included, a slight high attrition rate is unavoidable.

So why do IT professionals switch their jobs?  What is in it for the Individuals as well as the companies? One of the important factors would be a higher pay package, perks included. But then, the role and responsibility in the new job, job security and work environment (working hours, basic facilities for employees etc) take a major
role in an individual's decision.

What about the IT Companies? It isobviously a headache for them,  trained and experienced employees quitting their jobs, often leaving behind pretty huge shoes to fill in. But when the market is so enduring, it is not much of a task to hire professionals with similar skillsets, if not the similar domain knowledge. But whatever said and done, low attrition rate is one of the Indusrty benchmarks, the IT companies have to posses, in order to climb up the ranking ladder.

So in my opinion, Attrition: good for Individuals, not so good for companies. What is yours?
